Here are some guidelines regarding how I usually handle commissions and of my prices for contract work.

Please note that these are guideline prices and conditions that are negotiable depending on the particular project.

I do graphite sketches based on your ideas and I only begin on the final painting after you've approved a sketch. Then I do a detailed graphite drawing, subject to your approval, based on the sketches that will be the under drawing for my final painting. I paint directly onto my original drawing (after it has been mounted on hardboard and sealed with matte medium) so the drawing that you approved is the basis of the painting. I like to keep clients informed of the progress of the painting by sending regular update photos and e-mails so that any changes or revisions can be made along the way. When the image is finished I have a print quality digital capture (at least 300 dpi, at a professional photo lab) made and burned to CD. The client can then use this image as they wish for their illustration as I usually retain copyright and my original artwork unless other arrangements are made.

Cover illustration prices start at $400.00, interior illustrations start at $75.00. I expect half of the payment up front to begin a project and the second half before you receive final illustration.

Below is a list of questions that may affect the price of your quote.

• What size will the illustration be? (1/4 page, full page, half page, or “spot”.)
• Is the illustration going to be in color or black and white? (My color illustrations are oil paintings, and I do black and white illustrations usually in graphite.)
• How many illustrations do you need?
• What is the image that you want and what is it about? (Please give me details and a little background on what the illustration is about.)
• When do you need the illustration completed? (Let me know how much time I have to work with.)

For commissioned oil paintings (where you keep the original work) prices begin at $850.00. Commissioned graphite drawings for your collection start at $100.00. As with my illustrations I expect half of the payment up front to begin a project and the second half before you receive the final piece. Shipping costs may apply.
